Marijuana is the most commonly cited drug among primary drug rehab admissions in Idaho according to the data from 2009. In 2009, there were 1,804 individuals who went to treatment for marijuana dependence. 74% of these people were male and 25.9% were female, with the highest population of people admitted into treatment being 12-17 year olds at 42.5%.
There were 1,496 people who entered rehab for amphetamine addiction in 2009. 50.3% of were male and 49.7% were female and the majority of this population was people 26-30 years of age.
As a direct consequence of drug use, 133 persons died in Idaho in 2007. This figure is compared to the number of persons in Idaho who died from motor vehicle accidents (273) and firearms (187) in the same year.
