Drinking and driving
Don’t let drinking ruin your holiday

Labor Day weekend is the last hurrah of the summer. It’s the last chance to have a nice beach day shared with friends and family before the leaves start changing and it starts getting cooler. Many of us will enjoy good food and wash it down with a cold beer, but make sure that you don’t get behind the wheel or else you may end up in jail!

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will be launching the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative to prevent drunken driving related deaths and injuries. This initiative is being supported by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), an organization known for its efforts to raise awareness of driving under the influence, as well as helping victims of drunken or drugged driving. Supporting NHTSA’s initiative is part of MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving. So what does this mean? Plan on seeing an increase in sobriety checkpoints and patrolling of the roadways.

What can you do to keep safe during this last official holiday of the summer? Here are some tips:

  • Keep  track of how many drinks you are having.
  • Try to slow down your drinking. Too many drinks in a short time span can get you drunker quicker.
  • Always have a designated driver. Remember that buzzed driving is no better than drunken driving.

You can enjoy Labor Day weekend and other holidays without alcohol. However, if you or someone you know feels that they cannot have fun without drinking, then they may have an alcohol addiction. Recovery Connection can help you get the help you need and live to see another Labor Day. Call us now at 866-812-8231.
