Imagine if you could see the future effects of alcohol on your face right now! Well the Scottish government created a campaign to promote women’s health and it is in the form of a smartphone app from the Drink Smarter website. This app allows you to upload a current photo of yourself, add in your drinking habits, including frequency and amount and it will show you what you will look like in 10 years if you continue the same patterns. This seems like a lot of fun, but I am skeptical that it will prevent someone from alcohol addiction. Treatment can be costly and Scotland may be counting on the vanity of women to prevent alcohol abuse.

When you are young you think you have all the time in the world. You don’t listen to your parents telling you alcohol and drugs are bad, stay out of the sun, wear sunscreen and eat healthy. As an adult you quickly realize that all the time you thought you had has somehow slipped away. Today, you face all the consequences from your younger days wishing you had just listened to their suggestions. The Scottish government is being proactive with their community because the number of alcohol-related deaths among women in Scotland age 30-44 has doubled in the last 20 years. A woman’s alcohol addiction treatment center may be the next step for Scotland’s focus.
