Finding Truth in Lyrics
Finding Truth in Lyrics
I think I have heard Katy Perry’s latest song, “Wide Awake” a thousand times on the radio but never really paid attention to her lyrics. Today I actually listened carefully. These words stood out for me:
“I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn’t dive in
Wouldn’t bow down
Gravity hurts
You made it so sweet
‘Til I woke up on
On the concrete
Falling from cloud 9
Crashing from the high
I’m letting go tonight
Yeah, I’m falling from cloud 9”
I know she wrote it in response to her recent divorce, but the first thing that I thought about was someone realizing that their drug of choice is a false sense of happiness. Drugs can make addicts feel euphoria but when they come crashing down from that high, it definitely doesn’t feel good at all. This is what keeps drug addicts chasing that initial high; this vicious cycle painfully continues.
It takes so much strength and courage to pull yourself off the concrete and make the decision to break the vicious cycle. When you step away from the chaos you are able to see the damage drugs have done to your life. Entering a drug treatment program can help you start putting the pieces back together in your life. All it takes is one step.
