Whitney Houston: Death Surrounded by Controversy and Substance Abuse
Whitney Elizabeth Houston 1963-2012
Speculation surrounds the death of icon Whitney Houston after her long history of substance abuse. She began her career singing gospel and modeling and was signed to Arista’s record label after being discovered by Clive Davis. Houston had already had a legendary career in the entertainment industry when she married her ex-husband Bobby Brown.
Her marriage to Brown was marked with chaos and substance abuse. The two publicly documented their torrid relationship in their reality show “Being Bobby Brown.” Although never caught on camera directly, both Houston and Brown suffered from addiction issues evident in their relationship, communication and physical appearance.
Even though it is not confirmed whether or not Houston’s death was related to substance abuse, her erratic behavior leading to this tragedy leads to speculations of relapse. It is being reported that apparently she drowned in her bath after ingesting a cocktail of prescription sedatives. Her cause of death is still pending toxicology and further testing.
Houston’s struggle with drugs and alcohol contributed to her life spiraling out of control quickly. Being in a relationship with another substance abuser exacerbated Houston’s disease and although she got divorced, her drug addiction and substance abuse continued to progress.
We will miss Whitney Houston, a beloved entertainer, icon, mother and daughter.
