Zohydro: New Option for Opiate Addicts
Zohydro: New Option for Opiate Addicts
The drug company Zogenix is working at developing a more potent opiate for pain relief. This new drug called Zohydro will be more powerful than the second most abused drug in the world, OxyContin. They propose that this new pill will have at least 10 times more hydrocodone than Vicodin. This pill will be in a time release form; however, there is some concern about addicts crushing and snorting the drug to get the full effects instantly.
It is interesting that drug companies are looking to create a more powerful narcotic agent. Addicts will find ways to abuse any type of medication that gives off a euphoric effect. It seems like drug companies just want to make sure addicts have options when deciding what drugs to abuse.
It also seems that drug companies have the same motivation (money) like corrupt pain clinics. Why do we need a more powerful narcotic agent? Are the narcotics already being prescribed not working? Pain clinics are being shut down for operating illegally and contributing to the OxyContin addiction epidemic. The only good thing to rise out of this epidemic is the increase in drug rehab facilities. States are attempting to regulate pain clinics in their area to increase quality control. It is quite possible that drug companies may need the same quality control as pain clinics to eliminate creating powerful, addictive drugs to increase monetary standings. Just a thought…
